Discover Europe: EU is giving away train tickets to young adults

Are you 18 years old and always wanted to travel through Europe by train, explore the most exciting cities and create unforgettable memories? Then you now have the chance to make your dream come true: The “DiscoverEU” initiative is again giving away 35,000 train tickets to young adults this year. I have summarized all information about the conditions and the application process for you here.

Do you also long to escape the stressful everyday life, to discover other corners of the continent and at the same time to gain a large portion of self-confidence?

Under the "DiscoverEU" program, the EU Commission is again giving away around 35,000 travel passes to young Europeans in two application phases this year.

Since the initiative started in 2018, more than 165,000 people have been able to experience the European adventure. Anyone born between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2004 may apply in this application round.

From Tuesday, October 11, 2022 to Tuesday, October 25, 2022, interested parties can apply for the ticket. Registration takes place directly on the official website of "DiscoverEU".

30 days through Europe - but how?

As already mentioned, to apply for a “Travel Pass” you must have been born between January 1st, 2004 and December 31st, 2004. You must also live in a country that is a member of the European Union or at least part of the Erasmus+ program at the time the award decision is made.

Furthermore, the number of your identity card or passport must be entered completely and correctly on the online application form. After that, all you have to do is take a short quiz (except for group members) and the application is complete.

All lucky winners will get the opportunity to discover Europe between March 1st, 2023 and February 29th, 2024 for up to 30 days.

New this year: All selected participants will also receive a DiscoverEU discount card, which you can use to get discounts on cultural sites, learning opportunities, accommodation and local transport, for example.

Can you travel with friends?

It is up to you whether you would like to travel alone or with friends. You can also travel in a group of up to five people. For this purpose, a group leader must be named, who submits the application. He or she then receives a code that is passed on to the rest of the group members.

They now also fill out the online registration form and can register by clicking on “Send”.

Since a group registration is counted as an application, you don't have to worry about being selected alone in the end. However, note the maximum permitted group size of five people.
