Tourism in Greece registers record income

The Greek islands of Santorini & Co. are in great demand again this year

The tourists are back.
The Greek tourism industry is happy about a good year for travel.

The crisis years 2020 and 2021 are slowly being forgotten in Greece. Because the current tourism year is developing extremely well, as Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias told the Ana news agency. Despite inflation and the Ukraine war, Greek tourism has recovered - at the level of the record year 2019.

In August, hotel revenue increased by 23.4 percent and restaurant revenue by 13.6 percent compared to the same month in 2019. Tourism revenue this year could match or even exceed 2019 total revenue.

Like many other European countries, Greece is suffering from high inflation this year. The economy is expected to grow 5.3 percent this year and slow to 2.1 percent next year, according to the published draft budget.

In July 2022, Vassilis Kikilias advertised guests from Germany in the "Bild" newspaper with "No German will freeze in Greece" based on the looming energy crisis as a result of the Russian war in Ukraine. In any case, Greece has already positioned itself to offer itself as a possible mild winter destination.
