Winter Wonderland In Warsaw

Getting to know a new city during the Christmas season is always something very special. I considered several possible destinations last year, but finally decided on Warsaw.

In this blog article I will tell you something about the capital of Poland and at the end I will draw a small conclusion as to whether a visit between the holidays is really worthwhile.

From Munich Airport, LOT Polish Airlines takes you to Warsaw really quickly - a few hours later I'm already moving into my hotel room for the next 4 days and enjoying a spectacular view of one of the city's most important landmarks: the Palace of Culture!

The Palace of Culture offers a lot of entertainment in its many thousands of rooms: cinemas, theaters, museums, an indoor swimming pool and a photography college. Fashion shows, trade fairs and concerts also take place there again and again. However, the Palace of Culture is most often visited by tourists because of its viewing platform - I opted for a different panoramic view, which was much cheaper and much nicer.

Even shortly after Christmas, the old town of Warsaw is still adorned with an incredible number of lights and really rustic Christmas markets. On every corner there are curios, tasty or practical things to buy or admire. I opted for little lucky charms and tried the various Polish delicacies!

Incidentally, you can get to the old town center from the Hotel Intercontinental super quickly by bus. A little tip: you have to press a button on the bus to get on. We just waited for the doors to open - and were left there by the bus driver at -5 degrees Celcius - Oops.

I am totally amazed at how much you can actually experience in Warsaw! I really like the huge and very futuristic Zlote Tarasy shopping center as well as the many winding side streets, huge green spaces and hip food corners. These experiences make time fly by.

In the evenings I had fun at the Cosmos Museum and felt like a little kid again as I entered the interactive spaces of each contemporary art exhibition. Everyone can take a great snapshot here.

Unfortunately, I was only able to take a few photos of myself - although I always offered my help to everyone, many simply didn't even want to snap a picture or two of me. I don't really know it like that in other countries, but maybe I just spoke to the wrong people.

If you have enough time, you can spend a few fun hours in the museum. But I was particularly fascinated by the many great Christmas markets. A huge ice skating rink meanders across the loveliest of all – right on the old market square. A wonderful experience! Incidentally, the city is jam-packed even when it’s cold – the local residents also seem to appreciate this contemplative time very much.

Conclusion:

I would definitely fly to Warsaw again - even in winter and despite the rather low number of hours of sunshine and the cold. The food was – especially right next to our hotel on Emilii Plater Straße – at Bobby Burger and in the BRAVO Eat & Drink Restaurant simply delicious! However, a visit to a typical milk bar is a must! Have you ever visited a city "between the holidays"? How did you like it there?
