Algarve: Camping in one of the most beautiful regions of Europe

The Algarve is considered one of the most beautiful holiday regions in Europe. The almost 5000 km² region in southern Portugal is famous for its beautiful sandy beaches and evergreen maquis. The pleasant climate all year round also invites you to go camping. Carob-, almond- and fig trees, which were once introduced by the Romans and have been cultivated ever since, even grow here near the coast. In Sagres on the Cabo de São Vicente is also the most south-western tip of continental Europe. A place worth visiting as it is rare to see a more beautiful sunset than here at Lands End. If you want to experience Portugal intensively, you will have a lot of fun on the wonderful beaches and bays.

The good weather and the proximity to the sea make the Algarve particularly interesting for campers. Whether with a tent or caravan, the region invites you to be explored. At least with the caravan, the camping adventure is not a problem even during the winter months. Because the temperatures rarely fall below 8 degrees Celsius, even during this time.

There are numerous campsites throughout the region, many of which are open all year round. Holidaymakers have the choice between small courts reduced to the essentials and larger facilities with tennis courts, yoga courses and pools.

The latter category includes, for example, the Touriscampo off Lagos near Faro, which belongs to Yelloh Village.

Yelloh Village brings together over 90 camping villages in Spain, France and Portugal. The focus is on the successful combination of nature and comfort, which promise a unique holiday. The Turiscampo in the Algarve is only two kilometers from the beach and is ideal for families because it offers an extra aquatic area with lagoon, jacuzzi, children's pool and covered pool and entertainment for the whole family. The children's clubs are open all year round and there are special offers for long-term stays, so overwintering is not a problem either.

There is a wellness area and a range of other services such as a restaurants and bicycle rental.

As a surfer's paradise, the Algarve also attracts adventurous young people from all over the world. Whether with a caravan, in a converted bus or with a backpack and tent, the beautiful coastal regions invite you. For a long time, wild camping in Portugal was not even a legal problem.

But since the beginning of 2021, wild campers have been threatened with severe fines. In particular, anyone who settles in designated nature reserves must expect fines of up to €500. After all: Since 2022, it has at least been possible to stay in “approved mobile homes” in official parking spaces for up to 48 hours again.
